Vision Australia recognises that people who are blind or have low vision can face barriers when entering the workforce. You may have had fewer opportunities to gain work experience, or faced uncertainty from potential employers about how you will do your job and what changes they need to make in the workplace.

How can the Career Vision project help you?

The Career Visions project will enable people who are blind or have low vision to begin a leaning pathway and develop practical skills, in support of positive employment outcomes. The six trainees will be provided with the opportunity to complete selected modules of Certificate I in Business which will include Job Preparation Skills components. Trainees will be supported by the highly a specialized Vision Australia team including: Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Adaptive Technology Specialists, Orthoptists and Occupational Therapists. Trainees will also receive funding for work suitable clothing and if required be funded for any adaptive technology requirements.

What does being a Career Vision Trainees involve?

This is a 26 week paid program consisting of completing selected modules of Certificate I in Business, a 10 week classroom based learning module, and a 16 week placement in host employment. The program begins in February with interviews commencing mid November.

During the classroom based learning (10 weeks), successful candidates will be supported with supervision and career advice. While completing the work placement (16 weeks), Vision Australia will provide advice, information, mentoring and support to organisations involved.

At the completion of the 26 weeks, Trainees will

  • Earn a Certificate 1 level qualification in business
  • Gain practical experience in real work situations that align with their training
  • Complete paid work that can be included in their resumes
  • Receive a mix of career advice, job preparation skills and foundation skills.
